In January 2024, total export turnover of AFFs was 5.14 billion USD, up 79.2% over the same period last year (CKNT); import 3.72 billion USD; Trade surplus of 1.43 billion USD increased more than 4.6 times compared to CKNT.
Export turnover increased, reaching 5.14 billion USD thanks to the increased contribution of all product groups: Forest products 1.49 billion USD, an increase of 72.5%; seafood 730 million USD, up 60.8%; agricultural products 2.71 billion USD, an increase of 93.8%; livestock 36 million USD, up 3.5%; production input 177 million USD, an increase of 49.2%.
The export value of AFF products to all markets increased. Of which exports to the Americas were 1.18 billion USD (up 93.6%); Africa 104 million USD (up 185.4%); Asia 2.52 billion USD (up 86.3%); Europe 532 million USD (up 38.2%) and Oceania 78 million USD (up 100.9%). Export value to China accounted for 23%, an increase of 106.9%; The United States accounted for 20.8%, an increase of 95.9% and Japan accounted for 7.4%, an increase of 47.5%.
According to Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien, the agricultural sector has set development goals for 2024, which are: GDP growth rate of the entire industry 3.2 – 4.0%; Total export turnover of AFFs is 54 – 55 billion USD; The rate of communes meeting new rural standards is 80%; The district met/completed the task of building new rural areas in 290 districts; The rate of communes meeting environmental and food safety criteria is 82%; The proportion of rural households using clean water according to standards is >58%; Forest coverage rate is stable at 42% and forest quality is improved.
Regarding market development to promote agricultural product consumption, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien said to focus on the markets of China, the United States, Japan, and the EU; Open new markets with much potential such as Halal Muslim countries, the Middle East, Africa… Take advantage of FTAs, especially the CPTPP and EVFTA Agreements to promote the export of key AFF products, Support businesses in signing new export orders. Coordinate support for trademark and geographical indication protection for Vietnam’s potential export products abroad. Monitor and grasp the price situation and supply of essential food items, report to the Domestic Market Steering Group and the Government’s Price Steering Committee; ensure supply to serve domestic demand and balance supply and demand during the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin. Coordinate with localities to support connection and promote processing and consumption of agricultural products during the harvest season.
